RespiSim Module Components

Simulating clinical reality is a challenging task, especially with patient scenarios involving several change events and opportunities for learners to make treatment decisions.

Developed in collaboration with leaders in the field of mechanical ventilation, RespiSim® Modules save instructor time by providing a comprehensive, multi-media package of materials for theoretical and hands-on instruction. RespiSim is designed to allow the instructor to stay in control of the simulation. The instructor decides whether to continue the simulation when the student makes a less than optimal choice, or to correct the student and get the simulation back on track.

The RespiSim Modules cover basic bench simulations as well as advanced clinical simulations. List of RespiSim Module Topics

  • The Instructor Guide provides step by step instructions for running the multi-stage simulation to meet learning objectives. The Guide explains how the module should be set up, what happens during the course of the module (i.e. changes in the patient or the ventilator), questions to ask the students during the simulation and debriefing, as well as providing expected answers to those questions.
  • The configuration files enable the instructor to run the simulation from beginning to end, including changes to the simulation over time. The files include patient parameters, labs, x-rays, and breath sounds. You can edit these files to emphasize a particular point, or to create variation for competency testing.
  • The Scenario Concept Presentation prepares students for the immersive hands-on simulation. The slide presentation is in a movie format (mp4) and has a full voice-over for self-study. It may be used as a stand-alone or be placed into a learning management system (LMS) along with additional questions to help qualify students for the simulation.

You can edit our simulations to meet your goals as well as create your own simulations using the Instructor Dashboard. If you purchase a module, we’ve already done all of the prep work for you, and there is no need for you to ‘reinvent the wheel.’

IngMar Medical’s vision for the RespiSim System is to develop a platform for collaboration within the respiratory care community resulting in time savings for instructors, more consistent training, higher skill levels, and ultimately better patient care. If you have developed simulations that you would like to share, or if you would like to become involved in developing modules, please contact us.
