Mechanical Ventilation at IMSH 2018

We’re excited to tell you about two events at IMSH 2018 that focus on mechanical ventilation management training.

Curriculum for Mechanical Ventilation in Critical Care

Sunday, January 14, 2018, 6:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Cedars-Sinai Simulation Center (IMSH 2018 Course ID #213)

Creating realistic simulations to train for the management of ventilated patients is challenging, often requiring simulator and equipment modifications. This session will provide techniques to develop realistic mechanical ventilation scenarios for critical care situations covering several respiratory pathologies. Faculty will utilize small group sessions to demonstrate different methods of modifying simulators & task trainers for use during live scenarios.

Speakers: Alma Benner, Rami Ahmed, Jared Hammond, Derek Ballas, Patrick Hughes, Elaine Riefkohl-Ortiz, Ahmad Khobrani, Jennifer Yee

Interactive Mechanical Ventilation Workshop

Monday, January 15, 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, LA Convention Center Room 511C

A step-by-step teaching demonstration of key concepts of patient-ventilator interaction using IngMar Medical’s RespiSim® System.

This workshop will:

  • Demonstrate the basics of running mechanical ventilation simulations using patient-ventilator dysynchrony and ARDS patient examples
  • Display the ventilator screen and detailed patient data from the simulation software for a large audience to view
  • Use audience response to determine each step of the simulation, engaging individual critical thinking
  • Review a debrief with screen shots of abnormalities as well as explanations for correct and incorrect answers

Instructor: Eric Kriner, Adult Critical Care Clinical Specialist in the Pulmonary Services Department at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC

Sponsored by IngMar Medical, this workshop is part of the IMSH Corporate Council Spotlight Learning Labs.
