The ASL 5000 Breathing Simulator gives you the ability to create a patient with independent inspiratory and expiratory resistances. This type of advanced patient modeling is used to simulate clinical situations such as autoPEEP, COPD exacerbation, and bronchospasms.
This setting can be activated during the Choose a Lung Model step within the patient editor.
After changing the Independent Exp. Resistance setting to ‘in < > out’, you will now be given the ability to identify separate Rin and Rout values.
For an example of a COPD patient modeling, please read our next Tips & Tricks entry, Creating a Patient with COPD.
